St LORENZO MARTIRE E DIACONO PARISH COMPLEX
St LORENZO PARISH COMPLEX
Light and connection.
The inspiring elements of the new parish complex have their roots in the Christian and cultural and social history of the place. The layout is ideally inspired by the fish, symbol of the Savior in the Christian tradition, while the volume is defined by the brick wall that protects and at the same time opens up to dialogue.
A center for liturgical, community and pastoral life, which is related to the surrounding urban fabric: the churchyard welcomes and communicates with the town square, while the protected garden for children connects to the oratory and spaces for catechesis. The various pastoral functions are autonomous and independent of each other, but at the same time connected and flexible.
The liturgical hall is a single space with an elliptical plan with the presbytery in the central area, natural light draws its theological paths; the altar in a central position reinterprets the definition of “circumstantes”. In the face of low energy consumption and thanks to the presence of photovoltaic and geothermal systems, the building will have an annual energy consumption with zero balance.
A church designed for the people of Pegognaga, for a plural society, which welcomes and dialogues in mutual respect, for a pole of lively and participatory liturgical life.
