Combined cycle Power station, RIZZICONI

Combined cycle Power station 2×380 MWe, Rizziconi (RC).
2008

Olive tree and megawatt

Rizziconi’s power station is a huge complex, as big as a residential district. Planning and coordinating expertise has been crucial in the design process: we have been asked to interact with the various actors involved and manage all the consequences and changes in the architectural project.

A first input for the design has been the evaluation of the construction site: a rural context featured by olive and citrus trees. In respect of this situation the “green matter” became an important value for the architectural concept of the structure, both for the exterior appearance of the volumes and for the design of all the spaces around.

Different trees have been accurately chosen to create a good mitigation effect and a correct integration in the surrounding landscape.
In this direction we have also carried out a chromatic study of the façades to obtain a better mimesis of the entire structure in the natural site.

The complex comprises facilities and technological buildings, divided in two groups by a different architectural treatment of the buildings and by a different material used in the coating skin, respectively concrete and galvanized metal panels
