Retrofitting residential building, Genova

Living Carignano

A living room shaped around the person and his well-being, in empathy with the context. Living in the “living room” of Genova, Piazza Carignano, where the 16th-century Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta designed by architect Galeazzo Alessi, one of the most important examples of Renaissance architecture in the city, is located.

Combining history and technology for a retrofitting intervention that redevelops the existing building to create contemporary, energy-efficient architecture.

A volume that dialogues with the context and articulates its elevations differently with respect to solar exposure. Contrasting the hectic and stressful life of today with a comfortable lifestyle; the project makes the word comfort, the key to interpretation and inspiration.
